Common signs of water around the foundation are Sagging floors, floor cracks, Wall cracks, and Bowing walls. Foundation Walls can Collapse with too much water. The Leak Detective can inspect your block, brick, or stone foundation walls for the source of the leak. If your bowed foundation wall is leaning, it may be structurally unsafe and need to be replaced. Donʼt wait until a wall in your basement starts to lean, bow, or leak and collapse before calling the Leak Detective.

If you see a bowing or buckling foundation wall in your basement, you might have a water problem. Bowing walls are often due to water, which pushes against the basement walls, increasing the loads against them, and exceeding their strength. Walls can also bow and fail because water absorbent clays expand against the walls. Cracking, bowing, and buckling foundations are indicators of serious water around your home. Walls with water damage often have horizontal cracks as time progresses, but you can prevent this if you stop water problems before you must remove and rebuild the foundation wall. Before you have the foundation excavated, inspect the yard near your foundation for poor drainage. This includes all the soil with poor slopes near the house. The foundation walls must be protected from poor drainage. Another sign of foundation settlement is vertical cracks in a foundation. They are signs of serious water damage in your home. Vertical cracks are often caused by large puddles of water in the yard. It's always a good idea to have The Leak Detective look at the drainage, so you can be sure that the problem is not major before it gets worse.

Horizontal cracks on foundation walls indicate a different kind of problem, which may eventually lead to wall failure. Brick and block walls are prone to cracking and bowing too, and they're also susceptible to leaking at mortar joints. Poor drainage and grading around a foundation can cause water to infiltrate the ground near the foundation. This combines the weight of water and the soils; it can cause walls to crack, bow, and shear. Wall cracking is nearly always caused by poor drainage. Before permanently repairing a foundation wall, call the Leak Detective to see if the water issues can be resolved. Most cracks (with or without leaking) may need only minor repairs. For a leaking crack in the foundation, there are thousands of possible causes. Repairing the wall crack may not need high-pressure injection equipment or drilling holes in the foundation wall.
